The 'nucleus' of the Wisconsin English Springer Spaniel was formed by Earl Foster, Charles Clement and Henry Phillips, Milwaukee WI, in 1946. Formation of the club was also aided by Wallace MacKinney, Janet Henneberry and Ken Hunter, members of the newly formed GLESSBA Club (Great Lakes English Springer Spaniel Breeders Association).

WESSA is an affiliate club of the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association (ESSFTA), an AKC member club, and the National Parent Club for the breed in the US. Please visit the Membership Information & Application Page for additional club details.

The club now boasts approximately 130 memberships, with 58 of those being family memberships. Additionally, there are several members from other states including: Illinois, Minnesota, Maryland and others.

The club affords members the opportunity to network with other ESS enthusiasts, share information and good times. The club and it's members participate in a variety of activities with their dogs. Examples of these activities include the Conformation, Hunt Tests, Hunting, Field Trials, Working Dog Certification, Obedience, Canine Good Citizen, Agility, Tracking, related Training, Seminars, and Breed Rescue.
